COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 18 (UPI) -- Chris Lofton made six free throws in the final minute Sunday to push Tennessee into the NCAA Tournament's regional semifinals with a 77-74 win over Virginia.
Lofton scored 20 points as the Volunteers (24-10) set up a meeting with top-seeded Ohio State next Thursday in San Antonio.
JaJuan Smith added 16 points for Tennessee and Wayne Chism contributed 13.
Virginia (21-11) was led by J.R. Reynolds with 26 points.
The Cavaliers rallied from an early deficit to take a three-point halftime lead, but Tennessee opened the second period with a 14-4 run.
Virginia kept it close down the stretch, however, and the game turned into a free throw shooting contest over the closing moments. Lofton's last two free throws came with 5.9 seconds remaining, and Sean Singletary's three-point attempt at the buzzer bounced off the front of the rim.
