NHL: San Jose 3, Columbus 0

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 17 (UPI) -- Vesa Toskala made 35 saves for his fourth shutout of the season and Joe Thornton and Ryan Clowe scored goals Friday as the San Jose Sharks beat Columbus, 3-0.

The Sharks won their fourth straight and posted their 91st point -- good for fifth place in the Western Conference playoff chase.

Fredrik Norrena had 21 saves for the Blue Jackets, who lost for the third time in four games.

Thornton opened the scoring on a feed from Craig Rivet at 16:58 of the first period. The Sharks went up, 2-0, at 18:54 of the second when Clowe shot past a screen to beat Norrena.

Scott Hannan scored on an empty net in the third.
