Hantuchova wins the women's Pac Life

INDIAN WELLS, Calif., March 17 (UPI) -- Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova Saturday beat Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, 6-3, 6-4, to win the Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells, Calif.

It was the second career victory for the 23-year-old Hantuchova, who was the 14th seed and also won this event in 2002.

She earned $306,890, and likely will rise to No. 12 in the world when the latest rankings are released Monday.

Kuznetsova, the 2004 U.S. Open champion and 2006 French Open runner-up, was trying for her ninth career title in her 17th career final.
