INDIAN WELLS, Calif., March 16 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova topped Nicole Vaidisova in straight sets Thursday in the quarterfinals at the Pacific Life Open Tennis Tournament.
Kuznetsova, a native of Russia, who was the 2004 U.S. Open champion and 2006 French Open runner-up, came from behind to beat the 17-year-old Czech Vaidisova and the sixth seed, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, in just under two hours to reach the semifinals at the Indian Wells, Calif. event.

Her semifinal opponent on Friday will be Austrian Sybille Bammer, who ousted 13th-seeded Tatiana Golovin of France, 6-2, 6-3.
On Friday, Kuznetsova will make her third semifinal appearance in three tournaments.
