NEW YORK, March 11 (UPI) -- Jaromir Jagr's goal in the third round of a shootout Sunday afternoon gave the New York Rangers a win over the Carolina Hurricanes, 2-1.
The contest went into extra time after it was tied, 1-1, at the end of regulation.
New York's Marek Malik scored in the first period, and Carolina's Justin Williams scored in the second.
The third period and overtime were scoreless.
Henrik Lundqvist stopped 30 of 31 shots to earn his 29th win of the season for the Rangers, who have won four of their last five games.
Cam Ward made 12 saves on 13 shots before leaving at 8:37 of second period because of a laceration above left knee, when Rangers forward Brad Isbister collided with him.
In his place, John Grahame gave up the winning goal for the Hurricanes, who have dropped four of six overall.
There were no power play goals after nine combined chances.
