Sonics suspend Danny Fortson

SEATTLE, March 9 (UPI) -- Danny Fortson Friday was suspended by the Seattle SuperSonics without pay for conduct detrimental to the team.

In a statement, General Manager Rick Sund said the suspension would start for Friday night's contest at Boston and would last two games.

After Friday's game, Seattle next plays Sunday at Toronto.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported earlier this week that the 6-foot-8 inch, 260-pound forward missed a 90-minute practice with the team's reserves, thinking that his attendance was not required.

The former University of Cincinnati product has played in just 13 games this season, and none since Jan. 5 because of chronically sore knees.

Another report said he missed a morning shoot-around before a game in New York on Tuesday and was benched.

His per game averages this season are just 3.1 points and three rebounds in less than 12 minutes.

For his eight-year NBA career, his averages are 8.2 points and 7.3 rebounds.
