Leaney takes the lead at Palm Harbor

PALM HARBOR, Fla., March 9 (UPI) -- Australia's Stephen Leaney is a one-shot leader through two rounds of the PGA's PODS Championship at Palm Harbor, Fla.

In Friday's second round, Leaney shot 4-under-par 67 to move to 6-under 136 through 36 holes.

He capped his round with a 44-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole.

"I've been working really hard on it and haven't really been getting the results until this week," Leaney said. His best finish on tour was second place to Jim Furyk at the 2003 U.S. Open.

"I just started to hole some putts. I guess once you start to get that feeling, it comes back."

Heath Slocum, who birdied two of his final five holes, shot 2-under 69, and is alone in second place at 5-under 137.

Seven players, including defending champion K.J. Choi (69), are tied for third at 4-under 138.
