Fraser, Linag lead Singapore golf tourney

SINGAPORE, March 8 (UPI) -- Marcus Fraser and Wen-Chong Liang each carded eight-under-par 64s Thursday and lead after the first round of the Singapore Masters.

The tournament uses two courses at the Laguna National Golf and Country Club for the first two rounds because of the large field. Fraser and Liang played the Classic Course, considered the easier of the two. The final two rounds -- and the leaders' second round -- will be played at the Masters Course.

Only five of the top 32 players after the first round played the Masters Course Thursday.

Barry Hume, Shingo Katayama and Jyoti Randhawa each turned in seven-under-par 65s and five other golfers are two strokes off the lead at six-under.

Fraser opened his round with birdies on Nos. 1 and 2 and was four-under after eight holes. He beat par on three of the four holes from 12-15 and chipped in on No. 18 to complete his 64.

Liang had three birdies in a four-hole stretch on his front nine and, after a birdie at the 10th, ran off four consecutive birdies on Nos. 12-15.
