Harvard basketball coach ends 16 seasons

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., March 5 (UPI) -- Harvard's long-time head basketball coach Frank Sullivan, the longest tenured coach in school history, is leaving that post after 16 seasons.

Harvard Director of Athletics Bob Scalise announced Monday that the search for Sullivan's successor would begin immediately.

Sullivan, Harvard's head coach since the 1991-92 season, has the most head coaching and overall coaching experience in the Ivy League.

He is the longest tenured coach in school history and has won more games than any past Harvard coach.

"I appreciate the hard work and the class that Frank Sullivan has demonstrated on behalf of Harvard basketball," Scalise said. "I wish him nothing but the best going forward.

Harvard, which last appeared in the NCAA tournament in 1946, ended its 2006-07 season on Saturday with a 76-66 loss at Columbia. This season's record was 12-16.
