49ers sign wide receiver Ashley Lelie

SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 5 (UPI) -- The San Francisco 49ers Monday signed veteran free agent wide receiver Ashley Lelie.

Lelie spent last season with the Atlanta Falcons and had 28 catches for 430 yards. The Falcons acquired Lelie in late August in a three-way trade among Denver, Atlanta and Washington.

"The signing of Ashley Lelie addresses a need for us at wide receiver," said San Francisco Coach Mike Nolan. "He strengthens us by giving our team a playmaker that has proven ability to stretch the field."

In his five-year NFL career, Lelie has 196 receptions for 3,437 yards and 13 touchdowns with Denver and Atlanta.
