BOGOTA, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Roberta Vinci won her first WTA Tour title Sunday when her opponent was unable to finish the match at the Copa Colsanitas Tournament in Bogota.
Vinci was awarded the victory after fellow-Italian Tathiana Garbin had to retire due to an illness in the third set.
Garbin was ahead when she told the referee she could not continue.
She had won the first set, 6-4, before dropping the second set, 7-5 -- and was ahead, 3-0, in the final set when she retired.
Garbin had been trying for her second career title.
