NEW YORK, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Left wing Brendan Shanahan was placed on injured reserve Wednesday by the New York Rangers after an on-ice hit that left him unconscious.
Shanahan collided with Philadelphia's Mike Knuble in the third period of the game Saturday night and was knocked out. He was taken off the ice on a stretcher and spent a night in a hospital.
Shanahan, 38, has 28 goals and 26 assists in 58 games this season.
The Rangers recalled forward Brad Isbister from Hartford the American Hockey League to take Shanahan's spot on the roster. Isbister has played in 42 American Hockey League games this season and has 14 goals and 13 assists.
