OSLO, Norway, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- The speed skating world in Norway was in disarray as a regional team called for the resignation of national squad coach, former U.S. skater Peter Mueller.
While Mueller has support from the national skating association and some regional teams, Aftenposten says that he is so frustrated he may quit coaching the Norwegian national team.
The conflict began last weekend after skater Mari Hemmer alleged Mueller called her "fat," prompting complaints from a regional speed skating team. Team Furumo said Mueller's hard training methods injured skater Reidar Borgersen and called for his resignation.
The attacks reportedly left Mueller considering ending his tenure with the national team he joined in 2004.
Aftenposten said members of the national skating association board and the national team have vowed to quit if Mueller resigns.
