COL BKB: Providence 64, West Virginia 61

PROVIDENCE, R.I., Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Joe Alexander missed a three-pointer with 14.5 seconds left, then Herbert Hill hit a breakaway slam Tuesday as Providence beat No. 18 West Virginia, 64-61.

While not a factor in the final minute, Weyinmi Efejuku led Providence (17-9, 7-6 Big East) with 24 points and seven rebounds. Hill added 12 points and Jonathan Kale nine points and nine rebounds.

Frank Young and Darris Nichols each had 14 points and Alexander had 11 points and eight rebounds for West Virginia (20-7, 8-6).

The Mountaineers led by five points at halftime and then took a nine-point lead, 34-25, on back-to-back layups by Rob Summers and Alexander. Providence scored nine straight points nearing the midway point of the second half to take a 41-39 lead.
