Ferrero wins again at the Brasil Open

COSTA DO SAUIPE, Brazil, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Juan Carlos Ferrero beat Nicolas Devilder Thursday to advance to the third round of the ATP Brasil Open Tennis Tournament at Costa do Sauipe, Brazil.

The native of Spain, the tournament's top seed, beat his French opponent, 6-2, 6-4, in a second-round match on Brazil's red clay.

Italy's Potito Starace topped Argentine Martin Vassallo Arguello, 7-5, 6-3; unseeded Brazilian Flavio Saretta beat former world No. 1 and countryman Gustavo Kuerten, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5; No. 2 Argentine Agustin Calleri advanced with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, win over Spain's Albert Montanes; and Spain's Nicolas Almagro beat Lukas Dlouhy of the Czech Republic, 6-3, 6-3.

In the quarterfinals, Almagro will meet Saretta; Calleri plays the winner of the Guillermo Canas-Albert Portas match, which was suspended because of rain; No. 6 seed Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina battles Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo of Spain; and Argentina's Juan Monaco will take on Brazilian Thiago Alves.
