NHL: NY Islanders 3, Toronto 2 (SO)

TORONTO, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Rick DiPietro made 39 saves and gave up just one goal in the shootout Tuesday night as the New York Islanders topped Toronto 3-2.

The dazzling DiPietro made 16 of his saves in a raucous third period in which the Maple Leafs outshot the visiting Islanders 16-1 but failed to score.

The contest came down to a shootout in which Frans Nielsen and Viktor Kozlov scored for the Islanders. Miroslav Satan and Trent Hunter had the regulation goals for New York.

Pavel Kubina and Bates Battaglia scored regulation goals for Toronto. Andrew Raycroft made 18 saves.
