NHL: Minnesota 5, Carolina 4

ST. PAUL, Minn., Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Marian Gaborik had two goals and an assist Saturday night, as the Minnesota Wild beat the Carolina Hurricanes, 5-4.

Pavol Demitra had a goal and two assists, Mark Parrish had a goal and one assist, and Niklas Backstrom stopped 22 shots for the Wild, who won for the fifth time in their last six games.

Eric Staal had a goal and two assists, Ray Whitney had a goal and one assist, and Cam Ward was removed in favor of John Grahame, after Ward allowed three goals on just eight shots for the Hurricanes, who lost for the first time in their last three games.

Grahame allowed two goals on 21 shots faced.

Carolina opened the scoring at :36 of the first period when Justin Williams scored his 29th goal of the season. Minnesota got the equalizer at 2:03 of the first when Parrish scored his 16th goal of the season -- and the Wild made it 2-1 just 1:42 later when Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored his 15th goal of the season.

The Wild scored two more goals, before Carolina cut the lead to 4-3 when Staal scored with 1:02 left in the second.

The Wild scored the eventual game winner 2:51 into the third when Demitra scored on an assist from Gaborik.
