COL BKB: Marquette 67, Rutgers 47

MILWAUKEE, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Ousmane Barro had 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead a balanced scoring attack Wednesday night, as No. 12 Marquette beat Rutgers, 67-47.

Jerel McNeal, Wesley Matthews, David Cubillan and Dan Fitzgerald each scored 10 points for Marquette (21-4, 8-2 Big East), which won its eighth straight conference game after opening the conference schedule with two losses.

Marquis Webb scored 12 points, JR Inman had 11 and Adrian Hill scored 10 for Rutgers (9-15, 2-9), which lost its fourth straight game and its ninth out of 10.

Rutgers pulled to within 40-34 midway through the second half on an Inman three-pointer, but then Marquette staged an 11-2 run -- headlined by a Cubillan three -- to go up 51-36 with 7:29 left to play. Rutgers didn't get closer than 13 the rest of the way.

The Scarlet Knights hurt their own cause with cold shooting -- hitting on just 35 percent of their shots from the floor.
