PITTSBURGH, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Pittsburgh Steelers center Jeff Hartings has announced his retirement after playing in the National Football League for 11 years.
Hartings played his first five years as a guard for the Detroit Lions before being picked up as a center for the Steelers. He started 160 out of 162 games in his NFL career.
"Jeff Hartings embraced switching to a new position when he joined the Steelers, and continued our team's legacy of outstanding players at the center position," Steelers President Art Rooney II said in a statement. "He was highly respected throughout our entire organization for being a tremendous role model both on and off the field."
Hartings helped the Steelers win the 2005 Super Bowl as well as being a Pro Bowl selection in 2004 and '05.
