Avery goes to Rangers in 5-player deal

NEW YORK, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Los Angeles traded left wing Sean Avery and John Seymour to the New York Rangers Monday for right wing Jason Ward and forwards Marc-Andre Cliche and Jan Marek.

Avery had 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points in 55 games with the Kings this season. He also ranks fifth in the NHL in penalty minutes with 116. Last season, he played in 75 games and established career highs with 15 goals and 24 assists while leading the league with 257 penalty minutes.

Avery, 26, has played in 293 games with the Kings and Detroit Red Wings. He has 72 goals and 72 assists for 114 points, along with 855 penalty minutes.

Seymour, 19, has six points and 29 penalty minutes in 34 games with the Brampton Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) this season.

Ward, 27, was in 46 games with the Rangers this season. He has four goals, six assists and 26 penalty minutes.
