Memphis waives guard Eddie Jones

MEMPHIS, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Eddie Jones, a 14-year NBA veteran, was waived Tuesday by the Memphis Grizzlies.

The 35-year-old guard appeared in 29 games this season for Memphis, averaging 5.6 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists a game.

"We thank Eddie for his tremendous contributions during his stay in Memphis," Grizzlies President of Basketball Operations Jerry West said. "He was a consummate professional and we wish him well in his future basketball endeavors. On a personal note, I think he has a bright future in basketball after his playing days are over."

Jones broke into the NBA in the 1994-95 season with the Los Angeles Lakers. He also played for Charlotte and Miami before joining the Grizzlies prior to the 2005-06 season. In 872 NBA games, Jones averaged 15.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.
