Funk sets a record at the Turtle Bay

KAHUKU, Hawaii, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Fred Funk was an 11-shot winner Sunday at the Champions Tour's Turtle Bay Championship in Kahuku, Hawaii.

Funk, a wire-to-wire winner, shot 8-under 64 to finish at 23-under 193. He led the event by two shots after the first round Friday, and three after Saturday's second round.

"The first two days, I didn't hit the ball all that great," Funk said, "(but) I putted great all three days. It was a love affair with the golf course."

Funk's score tied him for second all-time on the Champions Tour for lowest score in a 54-hole event, and was worth $240,000.

There was a five-way tie for second place among Tom Kite (71), Tom Purtzer (66), Loren Roberts (66), Denis Watson (68) and Kiyoshi Murota (72).

They all finished 12-under 204.
