NHL: West 12, East 9

DALLAS, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Buffalo's Daniel Briere was the MVP with two goals and three assists but his Eastern Conference team fell to the West, 12-9, in Wednesday's NHL All-Star Game.

Rick Nash of Columbus, Minnesota's Brian Rolston, Yanic Perreault of Phoenix and Martin Havlat of Chicago all scored two goals for the Western Conference in the 55th NHL All-Star Game -- the first since 2004. The lockout of players wiped out the 2005 contest, and the league did not hold an all-star competition last year because the players were competing in the Winter Olympics.

Teemu Selanne of the Anaheim Ducks, a 10-time all-star, scored a goal for the West along with Lubomir Visnovsky of the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks captain Patrick Marleau.

The East was ahead, 5-4, in the second period when the West went ahead with four unanswered goals.

Six goalies appeared in the game -- Roberto Luongo, Miikka Kiprusoff and Marty Turco for the West; and Ryan Miller, Martin Brodeur and Cristobal Huet for the East.
