NEW YORK, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Willie Randolph Thursday signed a new three-year contract to continue to manage the New York Mets.
Last season, despite a series of injuries to his starters, Randolph guided the team to a National League-best 97-65 record.
In just his second season as a manager, the Mets easily won the NL East by 12 games over second-place Philadelphia, and 18 games ahead of 14-time defending division champion Atlanta.
In the post-season, they lost in seven games in the NLCS to the eventual World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals.
"The team has made great strides over the last two years and we are looking for bigger and better things in 2007," said General Manager Omar Minaya.
The New York Daily News reported that Randolph will be paid $2 million by 2009, the final year of the deal.
His agent, Ron Shapiro, told MLB.com that Randolph will be paid $1.4 million this year and $1.8 million in 2008.
