COL BKB: Vanderbilt 64, LSU 53

BATON ROUGE, La., Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Freshman Derrick Byars had 18 points and 10 rebounds Wednesday night to help Vanderbilt knock off No. 22 LSU, 64-53.

The unranked Commodores (14-6, 5-2 SEC) settled the issue by racing out to a 34-24 halftime advantage, and held LSU to 32 percent shooting for the contest.

Dan Cage and Shan Foster scored 14 points apiece, while Alex Gordon had seven points and 10 rebounds for Vanderbilt, which has won three games in a row.

Tasmin Mitchell had 16 points, three assists and seven rebounds for the Tigers (13-6, 2-3 SEC).

Garrett Temple had 12 points and four rebounds, and Glen Davis added 12 points and seven rebounds for LSU, which has split its last six games.

Vanderbilt won the rebounding battle, 37-31, and held a 51-34 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining.

LSU came within three points late in the game.
