SOUTH BEND, Ind., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Rob Kurz scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds in leading the No. 20 Notre Dame Fighting Irish to an 82-58 Big East romp over the South Florida Bulls.
Notre Dame (16-3, 4-2) used a 10-0 run late in the first half Sunday to establish control en route to improving to 14-0 at home this season. South Florida has lost five of its last six games and evened its overall record at 10-10. The Bulls are 1-4 in Big East Conference play.
That first-half run put Notre Dame ahead 35-24 with about 4 1/2 minutes to go before intermission. The Irish ended the half with a 7-0 spurt for a 42-26 halftime lead and pushed its advantage to 20 points with about 12 1/2 minutes to play and cruised to the win from there.
Kurz added four blocked shots to his point and rebound figures while Colin Falls contributed 14 points and Tony Jackson had 11.
South Florida got a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds from Kentrell Gransberry. Melvin Buckley had 11 points and McHugh Mattis 10 in the loss.
