NHL: Buffalo 6, Boston 3

BUFFALO, N.Y., Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Brian Campbell scored one of three third-period goals for the Buffalo Sabres Wednesday night in a 6-3 victory over the Boston Bruins.

Daniel Paille had a pair of goals and Campbell, Thomas Vanek, Derek Roy and Maxim Afinogenov each had goals for the Sabres, who snapped a three-game losing streak that included a Monday loss at Boston.

The Bruins, who have lost four of their last five games, tied the score at 3-3 in the first minute of the third period with Phil Kessel's second goal of the night. But midway through the period Buffalo took the lead again when Campbell's shot deflected off a defensemen and into the net.

The Sabres made it 5-3 with Afinogenov's goal with 5:16 to play, and ended all doubt with Paille's empty-netter with 42 seconds left.

Kessel opened the game's scoring by taking a loose puck on a breakaway and beating Buffalo goaltender Ryan Miller at 10:16 of the first period. Vanek tied the score about two minutes later off a nice pass from Daniel Briere and Buffalo took the lead, 2-1, on a goal credited to Paille.

Boston tied things at 2-2 on a Glen Murray power-play goal only to have Buffalo answer with Roy's redirected shot for a goal.
