NHL: New Jersey 1, NY Rangers 0

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Martin Brodeur made 26 saves for his league-leading eighth shutout of the season Tuesday as the New Jersey Devils blanked the New York Rangers 1-0.

Brad Lukowich scored the only goal of the game 9:42 into the opening period as the Devils won for the ninth time in 11 games.

New Jersey turned in a solid defensive performance in front of a home-ice crowd and had no penalties assessed for the entire game.

Lukowich took advantage of a mistake by the Rangers to notch his unassisted goal. Rangers center Blair Betts failed to clear the puck out of his team's zone. Lukowich pounced on it above the left circle and snapped the puck between the pads of New York goalie Henrik Lundqvist.

Lundqvist made 31 saves for New York; however the Rangers couldn't solve Broudeur who turned away nine shots in the third period en route to the 88th shutout of his career.
