GLENDALE, Ariz., Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Ed Jovanovski scored two goals but Ladislav Nagy's shootout goal was the difference in the Phoenix Coyotes' 5-4 win Monday over the St. Louis Blues.
After Mikael Tellqvist stopped Peter Sejna in the fourth round of the shootout, Nagy ended the game with a wrist shot into the top of the net to beat St. Louis goaltender Manny Legace
The Coyotes jumped out to a 2-0 lead, unleashing a 19-shot first-period attack on Legace that resulted in goals by Cyanic Peroral and Jeremy Roenick. The Blues tied the score the next period with Christian Backman and Radek Dvorak scoring 2:18 apart.
Jovanovski returned the lead to Phoenix in the final minute of the second period. But St. Louis twice overcame one-goal deficits in the final 6:18 to force overtime. Dennis Wideman, on a power-play chance, made the score 3-3. The Coyotes went up again when Jovanovski, with Wideman in the penalty box, scored. The Blues, however, made it 4-4 with Sejna scoring a goal with 1:45 to play.
