ADELAIDE, Australia, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Serbian Novak Djokovic upheld his role of favorite Sunday in defeating Chris Guccione of Australia in the finals of the Adelaide International.
The top-seeded Djokovic, 19, won the third title of his career by outlasting Guccione, 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-4. Guccione, ranked 153rd in the world, was trying for his first professional championship.
The Serb reached the finals with an easy triumph over Swede Joachim Johansson, while Guccione was pressed to three sets to defeat Juan Marin del Porto of Argentina.
