NHL: Washington 3, Atlanta 2 (OT)

WASHINGTON, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Alexander Semin scored with 18 seconds left in overtime Saturday night, giving Washington a 3-2 victory over Atlanta.

The Capitals did not lead until Semin scored unassisted for his second goal of the night, to hand the Thrashers their third straight setback.

Ilya Kovalchuk gave Atlanta the lead in the first period before Semin tied it 41 seconds deep in the second period.

Atlanta went ahead again in the second on Glen Metropolit's goal, only to have Alex Ovechkin again draw Washington even midway through the third.
