Tyson arrested on drug charges

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Police in Scottsdale, Ariz., have brought felony drug charges against former boxer Mike Tyson.

Tyson was charged Wednesday with felony drug possession, felony possession of drug paraphernalia and two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence, the Arizona Republic reported Thursday.

The former boxer was arrested Friday after police spotted him driving erratically in his black BMW. The officer who pulled Tyson over said he found cocaine in the car and Tyson reportedly told him he was addicted to the substance.

County Attorney Andrew Thomas said Tyson's celebrity status would not earn him any special treatment.

"I don't take any pleasure out of doing this," Thomas said. "A week ago, my kids and I were watching Rocky Balboa and we saw Mike Tyson make a cameo appearance in the movie. Now, here we are, and he's looking at going back to prison."

Tyson was convicted of rape in 1992 and pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault charges in 1998.
