COL BKB: West Va. 81, Connecticut 71

MORGANTOWN, W.Va., Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Frank Young scored 22 points Saturday afternoon as West Virginia upset ninth-ranked Connecticut, 81-71.

It was the Huskies' first loss of the season.

West Virginia took control of the first half with a 13-1 run to break an 8-8 tie, and led, 38-31, at halftime.

Da'Sean Butler had 16 points and two rebounds; Darris Nichols had 14 points and six rebounds; Joe Alexander had 12 points and six rebounds; Young also had four rebounds; and Rob Summers blocked three shots for the Mountaineers (11-1, 1-0 Big East).

WVU has won six in a row since its lone loss of the season against Arkansas on Nov. 26.

Doug Wiggins scored 20 points for the Huskies (11-1, 0-1 Big East), who were playing on the road for the first time.

Marcus Johnson had 16 points and eight rebounds; while Jerome Dyson added 12 points, three rebounds, and four assists.
