NHL: Philadelphia 4, Tampa Bay 3

TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Simon Gagne scored twice Thursday night as the Philadelphia Flyers beat Tampa Bay, 4-3.

He scored in each of the first two periods to help the Flyers build a 4-1 lead at the second intermission.

Peter Forsberg had three assists, and goalie Robert Esche made 42 saves on 45 shots for the Flyers, who broke a franchise-record 10-game losing streak.

They also snapped a 10-game losing streak at Tampa.

Martin St. Louis, Filip Kuba and Ruslan Fedotenko scored for Tampa Bay -- St. Louis scoring on the power play in the first, while Kuba scored a power-play goal in the third. Dan Boyle had two assists and Johan Holmqvist gave up four goals on 26 shots for the Lightning, who have split their last four games.

On the power play, Tampa Bay was 2-for-6, and Philadelphia was 1-for-2.
