NHL: Florida 3, Philadelphia 1

SUNRISE, Fla., Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Rostislav Olesz had a goal and an assist Wednesday night to help the Florida Panthers beat Philadelphia, 3-1.

His goal came just 30 seconds into the first period and the Panthers took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Jozef Stumpel made it 2-0 at 3:40 of the second period, and a goal by Mike Van Ryn at 8:59 of the third capped the night's scoring for the Panthers.

Ed Belfour allowed one goal on 24 shots for the Panthers, who broke a two-game skid with the win.

Kyle Calder scored a power-play goal at 7:38 of the second period for the Flyers. Antero Niittymaki made 22 saves on 24 shots before being replaced by Robert Esche in the third period.

Esche was beaten once on nine shots for the Flyers, whose losing streak grew to five games.

On the power play, the Flyers went 1-for-8, and the Panthers were 0-for-6.
