NHL: Tampa Bay 4, N.Y. Rangers 3

TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Dan Boyle recorded a hat trick Saturday night as Tampa Bay rallied to beat the New York Rangers, 4-3.

It was the first time Boyle scored three times in one game.

He is the first NHL defenseman to have three goals and one assist in a single game.

All of his goals came in the third period and brought Tampa Bay back from 3-0 deficit.

Brad Richards had two assists; and goalies Marc Denis and Johan Holmqvist combined to allow three goals on 28 shots for the Lightning, who have won three games in a row.

The Rangers had a 3-0 lead on goals by Martin Straka and Blair Betts in the first period; and Aaron Ward in the second.

Henrik Lundqvist allowed four goals on 26 shots for the Rangers, who suffered their fifth straight defeat.

On the power play, Tampa Bay was 2-for-6; and New York was 1-for-4.
