UNIONDALE, N.Y., Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Rick DiPietro recorded his third shutout of the season Saturday night as the New York Islanders beat Columbus, 4-0.
Jason Blake and Trent Hunter scored in the first and second periods, respectively, to give the Islanders a 2-0 lead at the second intermission; and goals by Mike Sillinger and Viktor Koslov capped the scoring.
DiPietro stopped all 26 Columbus shots for the Islanders, who have won three of their last four games.
Fredrik Norrena was beaten four times on 23 shots for the Blue Jackets, who have split their last four games.
On the power play, Columbus failed to score on 10 opportunities; while the Islanders went 1-for-5.
It was the first-ever win for the Islanders over the Blue Jackets, breaking a 0-6-1 streak since the Columbus joined the NHL in the 2000-2001 season.
