Saban: 'I'm not coaching Alabama'

MIAMI, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Miami Dolphins Coach Nick Saban vehemently denied any interest in coaching the University of Alabama football team.

"I'm not going to be the Alabama coach. I shouldn't even have to comment on this," the coach said, Florida Today reported Friday.

Saban was trying to quell rumors, which have been circulated for weeks, that he was interested in the job. Saban denied interest in the position before and reportedly turned down an offer of $42 million for five years, the newspaper reported.

Saban also denied that he benched quarterback Gus Frerotte during the last game of the 2005 season so the Dolphins could avoid paying the quarterback incentives.

"That's absolutely not true," Saban said of Frerotte's claim, which came from a Sports Illustrated interview.
