NHL: N.Y. Islanders 6, Atlanta 0

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Rick DiPietro recorded his second shutout of the season Saturday night as the New York Islanders trounced Atlanta, 6-0.

The Islanders held a 1-0 lead after the first period on a goal by Miroslav Satan, and then scored three times in the second period on goals by Alexei Yashin, Andy Hilbert and Shawn Bates.

Viktor Kozlov and Mike Sillinger both scored in the third period.

DiPietro stopped all 37 shots he faced for the Islanders, who have won two of their last three games.

Johan Hedberg was shelled for six goals on 32 shots for the struggling Thrashers, who have dropped their last five games.

Neither club scored a power play goal on six overall chances.
