BOSTON, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Paul Pierce scored 38 points Friday night to help the Boston Celtics beat Denver, 119-114.

Tony Allen had 30 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals; Al Jefferson had 28 points and 10 rebounds; and Wally Szczerbiak added 16 points, six assists and four rebounds for the Celtics, who have won four games in a row.

Pierce, Allen and Jefferson combined to make 35 of 49 shots.

Carmelo Anthony had 42 points, six rebounds and five assists for Denver. Andre Miller had 18 points, three rebounds and six assists; while J.R. Smith added 15 points, three rebounds and three assists for the Nuggets, who have lost back-to-back games for the first time since dropping their first three games of the season.

They suffered a 120-91 setback at Washington Wednesday.

Boston held a 64-47 halftime lead, and held off a late Denver rally.
