Lexus Cup tied after first day

SINGAPORE, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Candy Kung and Jenny Rosales rallied to earn a draw in their match, leaving Asia in a 3-3 tie with the International team in Lexus Cup play in Singapore.

The Asian team won Friday's first two matches and led 2 1/2-1/2 before the International team came back.

The International team pairing of Sherri Steinhauer and Nikki Campbell took a 1-up lead on the 17th hole but Kung and Rosales took the 18th and knotted the overall competition in the final match of the day.

International captain Annika Sorenstam teamed with Carin Koch for a 3-and-2 victory over Asia's Joo Mi Kim and Sakura Yokomine. Asian team captain Grace Park played with Shi Hyun Ahn -- one of four all-Korean teams -- and earned a halve against Stacy Prammanasudh and Angela Stanford.

The Asian team took 2-0 lead with Young Kim and Seon-Hwa Lee winning 6-and-5 over Brittany Lincicome and Laura Davies and Jee Young Lee and Meena Lee, winning four of the last six holes, going 2-up over Natalie Gulbis and Paula Creamer.

Morgan Pressel and Julieta Granada pulled the International team close with a 4-and-3 win over Hee-Won Han and Se Ri Pak.

The Lexus Cup continues with six fourball matches Saturday and wraps up Sunday with 12 singles matches. The International team claimed the first Lexus Cup with a 16-8 victory last year.
