MIAMI, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Olindo Mare kicked two first-half field goals Sunday afternoon to start Miami on its way to a surprising 21-0 shutout of the New England Patriots.
Sammy Morris rushed for one touchdown and 123 yards on 25 carries for Miami. Joey Harrington threw for a touchdown and 190 yards on 18-of-30 passing, and Marty Booker scored once and picked up 103 yards on eight receptions for the Dolphins (6-7), who have won five of their last six games.
The last time Miami shut out New England was in 1972.
Tom Brady was only 12-for-25 for 78 yards for New England. Corey Dillon gained 79 yards on 16 carries, and Troy Brown made three catches for 25 yards for the Patriots (9-4), who had a three-game winning streak snapped.
New England had won its previous seven road games in a row.
The loss hurt the Patriots' chances earning a first-round bye in the AFC playoffs.
