LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Veteran catcher Mike Lieberthal Wednesday reached a one-year contract agreement with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The 34-year-old Lieberthal goes west after spending 13 major league seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The two-time National League all-Star and 1999 Gold Glove winner has a .275 lifetime batting average with 150 homers and 609 RBI in 4,141 at-bats.
In 2006, the Glendale, Calif., native batted .273 with nine home runs and 36 RBI in 209 at-bats.
"Mike is a veteran catcher who can help our club in a lot of different ways," Dodgers General Manager Ned Colletti told MLB.com at the Winter Baseball Meetings in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. "He has a lot to offer (current catcher) Russell Martin and he'll be able to provide valuable leadership in the clubhouse. He's another local player who knows what it means to be a Dodger."
Lieberthal went to the disabled list twice last season with minor knee and hip ailments.
