COL BKB: Washington 87, Southern Utah 72

SEATTLE, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- The 13th-ranked Washington Huskies concluded their season-opening seven-game home stand with an 87-72 win over the Southern Utah Thunderbirds Monday.

Ryan Appleby scored a career-high 24 points on 9-of-11 shooting; Spencer Hawes scored a season-high 21 points for the Huskies (7-0), who have taken advantage of their schedule, winning all seven home games.

Quincy Pondexter scored 12 points and Justin Dentmon had 11 points and 11 assists. Phil Nelson contributed 10 points and Jon Brockman added 12 rebounds.

Justin Allen scored 20 points for Southern Utah (6-3), which had a three-game winning streak snapped. Swaney Cooper scored 14 points and Steve Barnes added 12 in defeat.
