COL BKB: Notre Dame 81, Maryland 74

WASHINGTON, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Kyle McAlarney had four three-pointers among his 18 points Sunday night as Notre Dame upset 19th-ranked Maryland, 81-74.

The contest was part of the 12th annual BB&T College Basketball Classic.

McAlarney's long-range shooting helped prevent a Maryland comeback in the late stages.

Rob Kurz had 16 points and five rebounds for Notre Dane. Colin Falls had 14 points, four rebounds and three assists; Russell Carter had 13 points and five rebounds; while McAlarney also had five assists and two rebounds for the Fighting Irish (6-1), who have won five in a row.

They will face George Washington in Monday night's title game.

D.J. Strawberry had 17 points, four assists and three rebounds for Maryland. Ekene Ibekwe and Greivis Vasquez each had 13 points and five rebounds; while James Gist had 11 points and eight rebounds for the previously unbeaten Terps (8-1), who were off to their best start since beginning the 1998-99 season 10-0.
