PRETORIA, South Africa, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Jim Furyk Sunday became the fifth player to successfully defend his title at the Nedbank Challenge in Sun City, South Africa.

On the final day, the second-ranked American on the PGA Tour shot only 2-over-par 74, but beat Sweden's Henrik Stenson by two shots to earn $1.2 million.

The round included his only bogey in the tournament's four-day run.

Furyk's final total was 12-under 276.

Stenson (69), who was the only player to break 70 on the final day, finished 10-under 278.

"I'm happy with the way I played the front nine, and on the back I got a little loose and hit some bad shots," said Furyk. "I might have played a little bit conservative on the back nine at times. On the front nine I kept the pedal down and played very, very well."

Ireland's Padraig Harrington (75) was third at 8-under 280.

Ernie Els (72) was fourth at 7-under 281.
