NHL: Ottawa 5, Tampa Bay 2

OTTAWA, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Ottawa scored four times in the first period Saturday night on the way to a 5-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Antoine Vermette scored twice for Ottawa. Patrick Eaves, Joe Corvo and Jason Spezza all scored once; Peter Schaefer had two assists; and Ray Emery gave up two goals on 36 shots for the Senators, who won for the seventh time in their last eight games.

After a big early deficit, Eric Perrin and Vincent Lecavalier both scored in the second period for Tampa Bay, while goalies Johan Holmqvist and Karri Ramo combined to give up five goals on 25 shots for the Lightning, who suffered their third straight loss.

Holmqvist was pulled after giving up four goals on only seven shots.

On the power play, Ottawa went 1-for-5, and Tampa Bay was 0-for-5.
