England batsmen in scoring spree

ADELAIDE, Australia, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- England has ended an impressive first inning in the second cricket test against Australia at 6/551 declared.

Paul Collingwood belted 206 runs -- only the third time an British batsman has scored a double century in Australia -- in a partnership of 310 with Kevin Pierson, who went on to make 158.

English skipper Andrew Flintoff ran up a quick 38 not out with Ashley Giles 27 not out before declaring the innings closed.

The best of the Aussie bowlers was Stuart Clark with 3/75 while Shane Warne's figures of 1/167 from 53 overs were the most expansive of his 142 test appearances. Glenn McGrath fared even worse as he was hammered for 0/107.

The misery continued for Australia, which lost opener Justin Langer for four runs in the few overs before stumps.

Australia ended the second day's play on 1/28 with Mathew Hayden 12 not out and Ricky Ponting on 11.
