NEW YORK, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Veteran left-hander Tom Glavine will be back with the New York Mets next season after signing a one-year contract worth a reported $10.5 million Friday.
That's less than the $14 million option which the Mets declined to offer the 40-year-old Glavine Nov. 20. He had filed for free agency 10 days earlier.
"There were certain parameters in place and the Mets had been very flexible," Glavine's agent, Gregg Clifton, told MLB.com. "Tom told them he would make a decision before the start of the Winter Meetings and after waiting around, he just reached a decision that he wanted to get something done."
Glavine spent most of his 20-year career with the Braves, and owns a home near Atlanta.
MLB.com reported that Glavine re-signed with the Mets when the Braves did not offer a no-trade contract.
The 10-time all-star is 10 wins shy of 300 for his career.
