Falcons' Vick apologizes for gestures

ATLANTA, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has apologized after he shouted at fans and made obscene gestures after the team's loss to New Orleans.

Vick was captured by TV cameras shouting at fans and making obscene gestures with both of his hands Sunday while the crowd booed the team, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday.

"First and foremost, I would like to apologize for my inappropriate actions with fans today," Vick said in a statement issued by the team Sunday night. "I was frustrated and upset at how the game was going for my team, and that frustration came out the wrong way. That's not what I'm about. That's not what the Atlanta Falcons are about. I simply lost my cool in the heat of the moment. I apologize and look forward to putting this incident behind me."

Greg Aiello, vice president of public relations for the NFL, said the league would be reviewing the incident. Vick could face a $5,000 fine under the league's sportsmanship rules.
